| 1. | What is the hukum for the Friday prayer? |
| It is an obligation that has been set by the Religion( Islam ). Not only was it done by the Holy Prophet (PBUH), but it has also been stated clearly in the Holy Quran.
If a male Muslim does not adhere to the obligation of the Friday prayer, then it is considered as a sinful act. In fact, more emphasis has been put into the Friday prayers than the other obligatory prayers that our Prophet (PBUH) mentioned that whomever does not perform the Friday prayers repeatedly for 3 times would no longer be a Muslim. Of course the Prophet here was just trying to signify the importance of the Friday prayers and the seriousness of the sin committed if one does not adhere to it. Male Muslims who are unable to perform the Friday prayers must replace it with the normal noon prayer called Zohor. But this is only if it is for the following reasons: If he is very ill, if he has to look after someone who is very ill, if there is a heavy storm, or if he is travelling long distance. |
|
| 2. | What is the minimum number of people to validate the Friday prayer and can it only be performed in the Mosque? |
| The number of people for the Friday Prayer to be valid, according to the 4 mazhabs are as follows:
Mazhab Syafii and Hanbali stated that the minimum number is 40, excluding the imam. Mazhab Maliki stated that the minimum number is 12, excluding the imam. Mazhab Hanafi stated that the minimum number is 3, excluding the imam. Friday prayer can be conducted anywhere, as long as the minimum number has been fulfilled. |

| Friday prayer is compulsory for Muslim men. For those who miss it intentionally 3 times in a row, their hearts will be closed by Allah s.w.t. Debilities that are recognized by Islam to enable one to miss the Friday prayer is the same as any other ibadah that one is obligated to do which are:

This is because Rasulullah s.a.w has mentioned that those who do not perform the Friday prayer for 3 times consecutively, their hearts will be closed. |
|
| 5. | What must a Muslim man do if he is unable to perform the Friday prayers due to unforeseeable circumstances? |
| It is imperative that Muslims make an effort to ensure that they perform their prayers, including the Friday prayers for men. If one’s work does not allow one to do so and the work is extremely important for the benefit of the community such as the police force and firefighting or for the interest of the family, he will not be in a state of sin. He must perform the Zuhur prayer instead but only after the Friday prayers are over, as a form of respect. | |
| 6. | Can a muslimah perform the zuhur prayer on Friday immediately after the azan or does she have to wait until after the Jum’ah prayer and khutbah to do so? |
| In Islam, there is no such requirement for women and all those excused from performing the Juma’ah prayer to wait until the Juma’ah prayer has been performed at the mosque before performing the Zuhur prayers. They can do the Zuhur prayers at any time, including immediately after the azan. | |
| 7. | Which one should be performed first, the Friday prayer or the jenazah prayer? |
| The Friday prayer is a compulsory (wajib) prayer that is performed in a congregation in a certain timeframe. Jenazah prayer however can be performed at any time and one does not need to rush into it, as long as it is not delayed intetionally. Hence, one must perform the Friday prayer first before the jenazah prayer. | |

| There is no nas or saying from the Qur’an and Hadith regarding the qabliyyah and ba’diyyah of the friday prayer. Scholars have deduced this hukum from the qabliyyah and ba’diyyah of Zuhur. This is because the Friday prayer replaces Zuhur prayer. | |
| 9. | What is the purpose of the second azan during Friday prayers? |
| The 2nd Azan before the khutbah has the same function as the 1st Azan. The only difference is, it is to signal to the congregation/jamaah that the khutbah is about to begin and that the Friday prayer is to be commenced afterwards. |
